How to Use PrettyLitter
PrettyLitter is made of super absorbent, lightweight silica gel. Silica gel crystals are extremely absorbent, more so than other litter types, so you need less litter to do the same job.
Our long-lasting, non-clumping litter means lighter trash bags, less scooping and less trips to the store. On the other hand, traditional clumping litters turn urine into large (heavy) clumps that need to be scooped out and replaced throughout the month. The super dry silica gels in PrettyLitter absorb the urine and odor, trapping it inside as the water in the urine evaporates out. The solid waste is all you need to scoop and dispose of.

PrettyLitter costs as little as $24 per month—delivered straight to your door. With advanced odor control, lightweight convenience, and health-monitoring benefits, PrettyLitter offers more than just litter—it provides peace of mind.
PrettyLitter lasts up to 2 times longer than clumping clay litter*, but the exact duration depends on your household setup and cat size.
Single Cat Household:
*By volume. Based on average monthly use per cat of silica litter at 2” depth vs. clumping clay litter at 3” depth with routine scooping. Actual usage may vary.
Single Cat Household:
- Standard duration: One 6lb bag lasts approximately 30 days
- Litter depth: Use 2 inches of depth in your litter box
- Why it lasts: Silica gel crystals are extremely absorbent - you need less litter to do the same job as cla
- Rule of thumb: One bag per cat per month
- Separate boxes recommended: Each cat should have their own litter box for optimal health monitoring and hygiene
- Larger cats: May require slightly more litter
- Litter box size: Larger boxes require more initial litter to achieve the 2 inch depth but same monthly replacement
- Cleaning frequency: Daily stirring and solid waste removal helps maximize duration
- Cat health: Cats with urinary issues may saturate litter faster
- Litter becomes saturated before 4 weeks
- Persistent odor despite daily maintenance
- Color changes don't reset after stirring

Pour the entire contents of the PrettyLitter bag into a clean litter box. Make sure you are getting the proper 2 inches of depth. Remove your cat's feces every day. When you scoop the feces, make sure to shake off the extra litter granules. Thoroughly mix the litter every day to avoid saturating the same spots in the litter box that cats prefer to urinate in. When the litter is saturated, typically after a month's use, empty the entire litter box's contents into a trash bag. If there is any residue on the bottom of the litter box, clean the litter box before pouring in your new supply of PrettyLitter.
Regularly check the color of the litter. Shades of yellow to olive green are an indication of typical acidity and alkalinity levels. If you notice any other colors, thoroughly mix the litter and monitor your cat's PrettyLitter closely over the next 24 to 48 hours. If color change persists, you should consider consulting your Veterinarian.

PrettyLitter disposal is easier than traditional clay litters:
Monthly Disposal Process:
Monthly Disposal Process:
- Never flush: Soiled litter should never be flushed down the toilet
- Complete replacement: Dump the entire litter box contents (no gradual scooping needed)
- Bag and dispose: Tie up the used litter in a plastic bag and place in outdoor trash
- Clean and refill: Wash the litter box, then add one full bag of fresh PrettyLitter
- Lighter weight: PrettyLitter is up to 80% lighter than traditional clumping clay litter
- Smaller volume: Less bulk in trash bags compared to clay litter
- Less frequent: Only monthly disposal vs. constant clay litter waste
- No heavy lifting: Gone are the days of heavy trash bags full of clay litter
- Scoop cleaning: Wash the scoop with water and antibacterial detergent or soap after use
- Litter box cleaning: Clean box thoroughly before adding fresh litter
Most cats take to PrettyLitter immediately, but some cats have a harder time transitioning. We all know cats can be picky, so this may happen if your cat doesn't recognize PrettyLitter's new texture, color, or (lack of) smell.
Luckily we have some tips to help with the transition! Try taking one poop and one urine clump from the old litter and putting it into the new PrettyLitter fill. Your cat will recognize the familiar smell and know this is still their bathroom. This has been really successful in transitioning our feline family members to PrettyLitter!
Another method would be to fill your litter box with 75% PrettyLitter and add a 25% layer of the old litter to the top. Your cat will mix it in themselves, and then you can use 100% PrettyLitter next month when you replace it!

Yes, PrettyLitter works for multi-cat households with proper setup. Here's what you need to know:
Bag Requirements:
Bag Requirements:
- One bag per cat: Every cat is different, but typically a medium-sized cat needs one 6lb bag per month
- Separate litter boxes: We recommend one litter box per cat to avoid odors and unhealthy bacteria buildup
- Sizing considerations: Cat size and eating habits can affect litter consumption
- Odor control: Despite having multiple cats, you should not notice an increase in odor thanks to our advanced silica gel formula
- Health monitoring accuracy: Color changes remain visible and accurate with multiple cats when using separate boxes
- Same monthly duration: One litter box fill lasts up to a month for each cat
- Daily: Remove solid waste from all boxes and stir litter to expose saturated areas
- Monthly: Complete replacement of all litter
If your cats share a litter box and you notice a color change, PrettyLitter recommends having an extra box and extra bags of PrettyLitter on hand so you can isolate their bathrooms and see which cat may be having an issue.
Yes. One of the most innovative features of PrettyLitter is our health-monitoring technology. The litter changes color based on the pH levels in your cat’s urine, providing an early warning sign of potential health issues, including urinary tract infections (UTIs). If your cat’s litter turns blue, it may indicate high alkalinity, which could be a sign of a cat UTI.
Yes. PrettyLitter's sand-like texture works great with many automated self-cleaning litter boxes. If your litter box already works well with other crystal litters, it will work great with PrettyLitter.
Each bag of PrettyLitter is designed for a medium or "average" size litter box around 16 inches long and 12 inches wide. PrettyLitter requires a minimum depth of 2 inches for a litter box being used by one cat. One bag will accomplish that. If you use a larger litter box you may want to consider buying an extra bag in order to provide proper depth.
If your cat is older or on the larger side, we recommend you get your litter box up to at least 3" of depth for optimum absorption. In this case, we'd recommend buying an extra bag of PrettyLitter and using just half of that bag along with the first bag. Additionally, if you have a cat that loves to dig, that extra bag will get you to at least 3 inches of litter lining the surface of the tray.
If you have a multi-cat household, we recommend a minimum of one bag of PrettyLitter per cat. For example, if two cats are using one litter box, we suggest two bags. If each cat has their own litter box, but one is used more than the other, we suggest two bags per box.
There are many different sizes of litter boxes, and every household's litter box usage is different, so if you ever need more or less litter, we're happy to help anytime. Feel free to contact our CS team at meow@prettylitter.com or 800-838-3381.

Daily: Scoop solid waste and stir the remaining litter. Stirring helps distribute moisture evenly and maintains the accuracy of the color-changing health monitoring system.
Weekly: No additional maintenance required - just continue daily stirring and solid waste removal.
Monthly: Replace entire contents with fresh bag. The old litter can be disposed of in regular trash (it's lightweight compared to clay).
What you don’t do: No scooping heavy, wet clumps. No constant topping off throughout the month. No frequent litter box changes.
Total time savings: Significantly less maintenance than traditional clumping litters that require constant clump removal and frequent complete changes.

Dark Green or BlueThis means your cat's urine is high in alkaline, indicating possible:
- Increased risk of struvite stone formation in the bladder
- Certain species of bacteria of feline urinary tract infection (bacteria that causes the infection can increase urine pH)
Yellow to OrangeThis means that your cat’s urine is acidic, indicating possible:
- Kidney disease or kidney tubular acidosis
- Metabolic acidosis
- UTI
- Calcium oxalate crystal formation
RedThis shows the presence of blood, indicating possible:
- Bladder inflammation

- UTI
- Bladder cancer
- Renal pathology (renal hematuria)
PrettyLitter changes color when it detects certain abnormalities in your cat’s urine. If you notice any color other than yellow to olive green, monitor the litter for the next 48 hours. If abnormal colors persist or your cat exhibits any sign of distress, you should consult with your cat’s veterinarian. Use the color to point them in the right direction.
PrettyLitter provides superior odor control that lasts up to 30 days through advanced microporous absorption technology. Here's how it works:
- Absorption vs. Masking: Unlike clay litters that mask odors with fragrances, PrettyLitter's silica gel crystals absorb and trap odor molecules inside microscopic pores.
- Month-Long Performance: Each bag maintains odor control for up to a month because the silica gel continues absorbing throughout that period, unlike clay litters that become saturated quickly. The micropores securely lock away urine and solid waste odors, reducing and eliminating cat odor in your home.
- Action: Odors are neutralized – the crystals trap urine and dry out solid waste, preventing odor formation rather than covering existing smells.
Yes, PrettyLitter is safe for cats and families. Here’s the science behind our safety:
- Amorphous vs. Crystalline Silica: PrettyLitter is made of amorphous silica gel, which is fundamentally different from crystalline silica. Crystalline silica - found in some clay litters - can pose health risks when inhaled over long periods. Amorphous silica is non-toxic and pet-safe.
- Widely used in consumer products: The same amorphous silica in PrettyLitter has been used in topical medicines and cosmetics for decades. You may recognize it from food packets, toothpaste, and other household products.
- Backed by science: PrettyLitter was created with cat healthcare at its core, developed by veterinarians specifically for feline health monitoring.
- No Crystalline Silica: PrettyLitter contains no crystalline silica - only the safe amorphous form.
- Household Friendly: Safe for families with children and multiple pets. The amorphous silica gel is inert and non-toxic.
PrettyLitter is a non-clumping litter. The super dry silica gels absorb the urine and odor, trapping it inside as the water in the urine evaporates out. The solid excrement is the only waste you need to scoop and dispose of. Just throw it away like you normally would and replace all of the litter every month.
PrettyLitter's color-changing technology helps detect potential health issues before they become urgent. Here's what each color means:
Olive Green to Yellow Color: Typical pH

Unlike cat food, medicine, and supplements, PrettyLitter does not have a shelf life or an expiration date. As long as you keep the cat litter dry and protect it from moisture, you can store it for extended periods if it remains unused or unopened. To help avoid the potential of expired cat litter and to maintain maximum freshness, we recommend that pet owners store the cat litter in a cool, dry place, avoiding areas with high moisture levels, such as bathrooms and laundry rooms.
We understand that cats can be sensitive to changes in their environment, including their litter box. While some cats may take a little time to adjust to a new litter, many cats are more focused on cleanliness and comfort than the specific brand of litter. PrettyLitter’s formula is designed to be gentle and comfortable for your cat's paws while providing advanced odor control. If you’re switching to PrettyLitter, give your cat some time to adjust, and make sure to keep their litter box clean and inviting to help with the transition.
Each bag of PrettyLitter provides odor control for up to a month through its amorphous silica gel crystals, which trap urine and odors inside as the water evaporates out. The silica gel maintains its absorption capacity throughout the month because it doesn't clump around waste - it absorbs it.
